Audi · key programming
Audi key programmingmobile, at your vehicle, 24/7
“I have a key that needs coding to the car” — that is the call we take on Audis most days. Programming pairs a key to your vehicle's immobiliser so the car accepts it. A key that is cut but not programmed will turn a lock and do nothing else. We can program keys we supply, and in many cases a key you have already bought — though we cannot guarantee an unknown aftermarket fob until we see it.
How Audi keys work
Audi runs flip keys on A1, A3 and older A4/A6, and proximity keys with keyless go on later and higher-specification cars including Q-series SUVs.
Two Audis of the same model year can carry different key systems depending on options, which is exactly why we price on the registration rather than the badge.
What this job includes
- Key paired to the immobiliser and tested
- Remote and proximity functions checked
- Keys we supply, and often keys you already have
- Done at the vehicle, 24/7
Audi jobs we're called to
- Spare key for an A3 or A4
- Replacement key after a loss
- All keys lost on a Q3 or Q5
- Key fob no longer recognised by the car
Audi models and years
Most mainstream Audis are workable at the vehicle; some later systems are dealer-only and we will say so rather than waste your time. Key compatibility depends on model, year and key system — send your registration and we will confirm availability and price before anyone travels.
How the visit runs
- 1. Send registration, make, model and year
- 2. We confirm the system and quote
- 3. Technician attends with the programmer
- 4. Key coded, tested and handed over

How long a Audi key programming takes
Programming alone is usually a short visit, because there is no key to source and often nothing to cut — it is the electronic half of a key job on its own.
What decides the price
Programming-only is the least expensive visit of the four, since you are not paying for the key itself. If the fob you supply turns out to be incompatible with your Audi, we will tell you on inspection rather than charging for a failed attempt.
Audi key programming FAQs
- I bought a Audi key online — can you program it?
- Often yes, but we will not promise it before seeing it. Aftermarket fobs vary in quality and some are simply the wrong system for the car. Send a photo of the key and your registration and we will give you an honest view first.
- My Audi key locks the doors but will not start the car
- That usually means the remote works but the transponder is not paired to the immobiliser — a programming job rather than a new key. It is one of the cheaper outcomes, so it is worth having checked.
- Are newer Audis covered?
- Most mainstream Audis are workable at the vehicle; some later systems are dealer-only and we will say so rather than waste your time.
