Land Rover · key replacement

Land Rover key replacementmobile, at your vehicle, 24/7

I need a new key for my car” — that is the call we take on Land Rovers most days. A replacement key is created and paired to your vehicle at the roadside or on your driveway. Where the key has a blade it is cut to your locks; where it is a proximity fob the work is entirely electronic. The vehicle never leaves you.

How Land Rover keys work

Defender, Discovery and Discovery Sport run proximity keys on recent generations and remote/transponder keys on older ones. Both need programming to the vehicle's immobiliser; only the older bladed keys also need cutting.

The new Defender is a proximity-key vehicle; older Defenders and Freelanders are usually transponder keys that also need the blade cut. Discovery sits either side of that line depending on year.

What this job includes

  • Key supplied, cut where applicable and programmed to the vehicle
  • Tested on locks, ignition or start button before we leave
  • Old keys can be deleted so a lost key can no longer start the car
  • Photo ID and proof of ownership checked before any work

Land Rover jobs we're called to

  • Spare key for a Defender or Discovery used for towing and work
  • Lost single key on a Discovery Sport
  • All keys lost after a key was left in a field, boat or building site
  • Worn or snapped older Freelander/Discovery blade

How long a Land Rover key replacement takes

A straight replacement sits between a spare and an all-keys-lost job. If you still hold a working key it is quick; if the lost key was your only one, it becomes the all-keys-lost route below and takes longer.

What decides the price

Price is driven by the key type (Land Rover bladed remote versus proximity fob), the model year, and whether a working key still exists. That is why we ask for the registration before quoting rather than after arriving.

Land Rover key replacement FAQs

Will my old Land Rover key still work after a replacement?
Only if you want it to. If a key has been lost or stolen we can delete it from the vehicle so it can never start the car again — say so when you book, because it means bringing every remaining key to the visit.
Is a replacement key from you the same as a dealer key?
It performs the same job — lock, unlock and start — and is programmed to your Land Rover in the same way. We are mobile and come to the vehicle, which is the practical difference for most people.
Are newer Land Rovers covered?
Most Land Rovers of the last two decades are workable at the roadside. Newer vehicles depend on the key system fitted — send the registration and we will confirm.
