Range Rover key programmingmobile, at your vehicle, 24/7

I have a key that needs coding to the car” — that is the call we take on Range Rovers most days. Programming pairs a key to your vehicle's immobiliser so the car accepts it. A key that is cut but not programmed will turn a lock and do nothing else. We can program keys we supply, and in many cases a key you have already bought — though we cannot guarantee an unknown aftermarket fob until we see it.

How Range Rover keys work

Range Rovers use proximity (smart) keys rather than a bladed key you turn. The car recognises the key over radio, so a replacement has to be paired to the vehicle electronically — a cut blade on its own will not start it. The emergency blade hidden inside the fob is only for opening the door if the battery dies.

Evoque, Velar, Sport and Vogue all use proximity keys, but the key system and the programming route are not the same across generations — an early Evoque and a current Sport are very different jobs. Tell us the registration and we will tell you which system your car has before anyone travels.

What this job includes

  • Key paired to the immobiliser and tested
  • Remote and proximity functions checked
  • Keys we supply, and often keys you already have
  • Done at the vehicle, 24/7

Range Rover jobs we're called to

  • Spare smart key added while the original still works
  • Replacement key after the only fob was lost or damaged
  • All keys lost — new key created from the vehicle
  • Key not detected / fob unresponsive after a battery or water issue

Coverage runs across current model years, but availability on the newest Range Rovers depends on the exact key system fitted. We confirm on the registration rather than making a blanket claim. Key compatibility depends on model, year and key system — send your registration and we will confirm availability and price before anyone travels.

How the visit runs

  1. 1. Send registration, make, model and year
  2. 2. We confirm the system and quote
  3. 3. Technician attends with the programmer
  4. 4. Key coded, tested and handed over

How long a Range Rover key programming takes

Programming alone is usually a short visit, because there is no key to source and often nothing to cut — it is the electronic half of a key job on its own.

What decides the price

Programming-only is the least expensive visit of the four, since you are not paying for the key itself. If the fob you supply turns out to be incompatible with your Range Rover, we will tell you on inspection rather than charging for a failed attempt.

Range Rover key programming FAQs

I bought a Range Rover key online — can you program it?
Often yes, but we will not promise it before seeing it. Aftermarket fobs vary in quality and some are simply the wrong system for the car. Send a photo of the key and your registration and we will give you an honest view first.
My Range Rover key locks the doors but will not start the car
That usually means the remote works but the transponder is not paired to the immobiliser — a programming job rather than a new key. It is one of the cheaper outcomes, so it is worth having checked.
Are newer Range Rovers covered?
Coverage runs across current model years, but availability on the newest Range Rovers depends on the exact key system fitted. We confirm on the registration rather than making a blanket claim.
